What are your Hours of Operation

The Salt Lake Int’l Airport location is open Mon-Sat from 8 AM to 6 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.
The Salt Lake City (UT) local office is open Mon-Sat from 8 AM to 6 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.
The Layton (UT) local office is open Mon-Sat from 10 AM to 7 PM. We offer after hours and Sunday service by appointment only for a nominal surcharge.

What is the minimum age to rent a vehicle?

You must be 21 years of age to rent a vehicle with Rugged Rental.

What insurance is required for renting a vehicle?

Renters are required to have collision damage coverage for the rental car as well as the state minimum of liability coverage. If proof of insurance is not provided, the renter will be required to purchase insurance from Rugged Rental.

– Renter Collision Protection@ $25/day
– Supplemental Liability Insurance @ $10/day

Both are required to provide the necessary coverage.
Rugged Rental is not qualified to evaluate the adequacy of the renters existing coverage – therefore the renter should examine his or her credit card protections, automobile insurance policies or other sources of coverage that may duplicate the insurance options we offer prior to arrival at our office.

What are the local renter requirements?

Local Renters are required to have a credit card in their name and provide proof of insurance. If Rugged Rental insurance is purchased this satisfies the insurance requirement.

Local Renters must possess a valid permanent driver license. (Temporary licenses are not accepted) Proof of residency must be provided matching the address on the driver license.

Local Renters may not leave their personal vehicles at Rugged Rental during the duration of their rental.

Is "off-road" use allowed?

Driving of all Rugged Rental vehicles is limited to improved roads only. This is described as all paved roads, graded dirt roads, or well maintained easy to moderate trails. Off road use of any kind is prohibited as well as rock crawling or driving on difficult trails.

Do you offer unlimited miles?

We do not offer unlimited miles. No exceptions. Every vehicle rental has 200 miles per day, 1,400 per week included. There are 4,200 miles included with our regular monthly rate. Extra miles are charged at $0.30/mile.

Do your vehicles have Snow Tires?

All Rugged Rental SUV and Truck tires are within UDOT winter regulations. In addition, any vehicle that has *4WD* or *AWD* in the description also meets the requirements of the UDOT canyons sticker program and Utah’s traction laws.

Is there a Shuttle Service available from the Salt Lake Int'l Airport?

Yes. As soon as you have collected all of your luggage at the baggage claim:

* Call us at 801-977-9111 to request a shuttle pick up.
* Go across the sky bridge located across from baggage claim #6.
* Proceed straight thru the car rental lobby continuing across the sky bridge.
* At the end of the bridge, go out the glass doors and down the escalator or elevators.
* Once in the parking garage on the ground level, follow the painted sidewalk heading to the right.
* Go past the Avis/Payless area until you get to the shuttle stop at the west end of the garage.
* There is a sign stating Off-Site Shuttles.
* We will pick you up in a silver van clearly marked as Rugged Rental & ACE Rent-A-Car.

How long does it take to get to your office from the airport?

We are only 6 miles from the airport, about a 10 minute drive.

What is the difference between the Salt Lake Int'l Airport location & the Salt Lake local office location?

There is a difference in applicable taxes and fees for visitors who arrive via the Salt Lake International airport and local renters. This helps identify which taxes and fees apply to your specific rental and gives you an accurate estimate.

What happens if I arrive after hours?

We are happy to arrange after hours service. There is a nominal charge and we require advanced notice. In these cases we will have representatives here to help you upon your arrival including airport shuttle service if needed.

Can I return my vehicle after your business hours?

Yes. We offer an after hours return at an off airport parking facility. They will accept the rental vehicle on our behalf and shuttle you to the airport which is very close-by.

Do you allow multiple vehicle reservations?

We do allow customers to reserve multiple vehicles. For reservations of 3 or more vehicles the following is required. 1) 50% deposit at time of booking. 2) 30 days notice for cancellations. 3) Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations within 30 days of pick up date.

Do you accept International Driver Licenses?

International renters must show a valid drivers license in their name from their country of residence, a valid passport and if the Drivers License is not in Roman Alphabet, it must be accompanied by an International Drivers License.
